Thoughts by Adults

Last year I was so fed up with the lack of a proper relationship that I decided to use a dating service. I seemed to always be seeing the same guys, going to work and seeing my colleagues, then going for a drink with them after work, going to company functions with them - and most of them were people I'd grown up with so no chance of any romance coming along.

So I registered witha dating service, which proved to be very simple and quick, and waited for them to find me a match. This was not long in coming, and after about 10 days I found myself getting ready for my first date with a complete stranger! Of course I'd had a few details about him from the dating service, so I knew a little bit about him, and a photo as well - who would think that such a good-looking guy would need to use a dating service? And would you believe it - we were both into Latin American dancing! At least we would have something to talk about.

We had arranged to meet at a wine bar one evening, and I dressed carefully - not too casual but not too fussy, and just a little make-up. My date was already there when I arrived, although I wasn't late; he rose from the table to greet me with a brief hug and peck on the cheek, and a big smile showing how nervous he was - almost as anxious as me by the looks of him!

He charmingly helped me into my seat and we ordered a bottle of wine, the conversation at first stilted but then warming as we discovered about each others' backgrounds, finding that we had much more in common than I had first imagined. The evening flew by and we hardly touched the wine, but then the wine bar was closing and it was time to leave. We made another date for two nights later, dinner this time, and I couldn't wait to see him again.

Over dinner we talked about our failed love lives or lack of, and he told me he was not looking for a quick fling any more, and I agreed and said I just wanted a steady relationship. We were both honest with each other right from the start, and so we were able to build upon that foundation of honesty and trust. I am happy to say that now, one year down the line, we are living together as a couple and looking forward to a long future together.
